Dean G. Blevins, professor of Christian Education at Nazarene Theological Seminary, will offer a unique summer course in Child Spirituality in conjunction with the Children’s Spirituality Conference: Christian Perspectives June 14-17, 2009 at Concordia University in Chicago. The course, which serves as part of a new initiative to provide graduate level professional development to children’s pastors serving in ministry, will utilize online engagement as well as direct interaction during the conference. The course syllabus (CED770 Field Curriculum: Child Spirituality Summer 2009) can be found on the NTS website at www.nts.edu/course-syllabi. More information on the conference itself may be accessed at www.childspirituality.org/conference.
In addition, Dr. Blevins, who has published several articles about Wesleyan child spirituality, will offer two seminars at the conference. The first research seminar will address the issue of sin and children in light of Wesleyan theology and current insights from neuroscience. The second seminar will serve as a preliminary introduction to a new book exploring congregational formation practices anchored around the lives of children.
Additionally, this fall, NTS will welcome Rev. Phil Hause, children’s pastor of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, as instructor of a two-week intensive class in ministry with children. For more information on these and other educational opportunities, please contact the NTS Office of Admissions at enroll@nts.edu or 800.831.3011, ext. 5452.
